Child visitation dispute leads to shooting in Knoxville

Child visitation dispute leads to shooting near Knoxville apartment

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Knoxville police say a dispute about child visitation led to a shooting Tuesday evening.

According to Sgt. James Lockmiller of the Knoxville Police Department, it happened around 5 p.m. near the Arbor Place Apartments on South Hall of Fame Drive.

The victims, Thomas Hardesty, 30, and Courtney Brown, 19, informed officials they were on their way to the hospital in a personal vehicle of their own.

According to Sgt. Lockmiller, both victims informed officers they went to the apartments in order to speak with the victim's ex-girlfriend about child-visitation arrangements.

According to the victims' account, upon arriving at the complex, the suspect emerged from a nearby apartment, made threats toward the victims and fired a handgun.

Police say one victim was shot in the leg, while the other victim sustained possible injuries to their hand from possible bullet-grazings and/or shrapnel.

Both Hardesty and Brown are expected to be okay.

Police say they have identified a suspect and efforts are underway to locate him.

The investigation is ongoing.
