Pilot: 95% of trucking customers have been paid back rebate discrepancies

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Pilot Flying J says it has paid back nearly all of its customers with interest in connection with a fuel rebate scandal.

A release from the company issued Wednesday says auditors are still checking and re-checking customer accounts and will keep on doing so for a few more months.

They say Pilot paid back 95 percent of its customers any potential discrepancy found by their internal auditors by December 31, with six percent interest.

An external compliance committee is working on recommendations for the company. Pilot's hope is to have those implemented by the middle of the year.

Pilot and several trucking companies reached a settlement late last year in a federal class action lawsuit.

Other lawsuits are still pending with companies claiming they were cheated out of rebates on diesel fuel purchases.

Seven former Pilot workers pleaded guilty to fraud charges since the raid on Pilot headquarters last April.
