COLUMBIA, Tenn. -

A Columbia animal shelter is asking for the public's assistance in locating the person who threw a kitten from a moving car last week.

The eight-week-old kitten sustained major injuries, according to animal rescue Eva's Eden's Web site, but is expected to recover.

"He had some gravel embedded in his face from the actual impact from hitting the pavement, but his tail was what was in really bad shape," explained Eva's Eden rescue director Nicole Walker. "That [the tail injury] didn't happen from the car accident that was a previous injury from before. The doctor thinks maybe a dog bit him."

The kitten was thrown from a car on Highway 31 in Maury County around 6 p.m. last Wednesday evening.

Several people stopped to help the animal before someone brought it to Eva's Eden.

Walker told News 2 the kitten has been in and out of surgery ever since.

"He's eating well now; he's being very friendly with us. So we're encouraged that he will be fine. He's got a nice little spirit. He isn't depressed," she said.

Walker said she is now concerned that other kittens from the same litter are in danger.

"If someone knows about him, or recognizes him or knows who owned him that would be great because then we could find out who did it," Walker said. "And if there are other kittens in the home, we would like to get them out."

The kitten will eventually be put up for adoption but will require several weeks of recovery time before that happens.

Anyone with information is urged to call Columbia police at 931-388-2727 or Columbia Animal Control at 931-375-1403.
