CROSSVILLE (WATE) - As the snow falls in Crossville, the street department is ready to tackle yet another winter storm. So far, they've already spent about $25,000 on salt this year.

"Right now we're just trying to get ahead of the game and keep everybody moving safely," said Crossville Street Department Supervisor Joe Miller.

Miller said six salt trucks were out spreading about 100 tons of salt Tuesday evening.

"We're starting our round one. We'll get our roads covered one good time, then we'll survey and see what kind of shape our streets are in. If they're in good enough shape at that point, we will call it a done deal. If not we'll start round two," he said.

To help deal with more snow, some Crossville residents are stocking up on food and gas.

"I'm just getting a little bit of fuel so I don't have to do it in the morning," said Larry Lewis.

Officials say the main concern now is the ice on the roads, but Crossville street crews will be on call throughout the night and continue salting the roads as needed.
