GATLINBURG (WATE) - The United States Mint and the National Park Service are hosting an event at the Great Smoky Mountains National Park next week to launch a new quarter honoring the park.

Hundreds of local area school-aged children are expected to attend the event on January 29 at the Mills Auditorium - Gatlinburg Convention Center at 10 a.m.

Following the ceremony, the public can exchange their currency for $10 rolls of the new Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarters.

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park quarter is the 21st coin of the America the Beautiful Quarters Program, a 12-year initiative to honor 56 national parks and other national sites. Five new quarters in the series are released each year.
