GREENBRIER (AP) - The mayor of Greenbrier, who stands accused of stealing $60,000 from the Toys for Tots charity he founded, is scheduled to appear at a settlement hearing on Friday.

Billy Wilson has refused to step down from his post, despite the Board of Mayor and Aldermen voting to relieve him of most of his duties and suspend him from his position as chief of the local volunteer fire department.

Wilson has been mayor since 2004, and town officials say the board does not have the power to force him to resign.

Despite the accusations against Wilson, he has many supporters in the town of 6,500, where people say Wilson is always quick to help anyone in need. A "Support Greenbrier Mayor Billy Wilson" Facebook page has 670 likes.
