KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A new six-month-old red panda cub arrived at Knoxville Zoo Friday. With the arrival, the Boyd Family Red Panda Village is now home to five cubs, a first for the world-renowned red panda program.

Named for the Nebraska city in which he was born, male cub Lincoln will be reared with female cubs Xue Li and Delilah.

Lincoln was born at the Lincoln Children's Zoo, but the decision was made by Lincoln staff to hand-raise him due to medical concerns.

On the recommendation of the Red Panda Species Survival Plan, he came to Knoxville to be peer raised with Xue Li and Delilah to learn appropriate social behavior.

Though born in Nebraska, Lincoln has Knoxville roots. His mother Sophia was born at the Knoxville Zoo.

While Xue Li and Delilah are being reared by their caretakers in the nursery, their counterparts Tenzing and Tabei, two red panda siblings who turned seven months old January 1, are being raised by first-time mom Scarlett in the habitat next door, making the Boyd Family Red Panda Village home to five cubs.
