KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Scattered light snow showers will roll through the region early today bringing some gusty winds with it. Snow totals should be around 1" or less across the Plateau with some 1"-2" totals possible for portions on S.E. Kentucky. The Valley should only see Trace amounts or just wind-blown flurries and the Smokies could see around 1" across higher elevation areas. This disturbance bringing the snow opportunity will move out by midday with some sunshine returning for most through the afternoon.
It will remain windy with highs in the 30s, so keep the coat handy all day. It will be clear, quiet and chill overnight and sunshine will return for Sunday. The good news is that we will see highs in the mid-upper 40s for Sunday, so try to enjoy the brief thaw. Another "clipper" system will produce some additional light snow showers/flurries for most late Sunday night into early Monday, but the main thing it will do is help to usher in another round of Arctic air for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Today: A.M. light snow showers/flurries (60% coverage) followed by some afternoon sun. Windy and chilly. High: 37°.
