Sunday evening forecast: Beautiful Sunday gives way to more cold

Sunday Night: Clouds return with a few spotty rain showers late (30% coverage). Low: 39°.

Monday: Morning light rain mixing with/changing to light snow (40% coverage) as colder air pours in. Temperatures fall from the upper 30s in the morning into the 20s by evening.

Monday Night: Variably cloudy, breezy and cold. Low: 12° (Wind Chill Values near 0°)

Tuesday: Variably cloudy and cold. High: 24°.

Sunday brought sunshine and temperatures in the low-mid 50s, but things are about to change.

Clouds will increase and lower overnight Sunday into Monday, but lows will only drop down into the mid-upper 30s in most areas. This is important because we will see a few light rain showers develop Monday morning.

Colder air will pour in during the day Monday and the rain could mix with or change to some light snow before it tapers off midday.

The snow could last into the afternoon hours for some higher elevation areas in the Smokies, where some 1" or less totals are possible. The bigger story will be the temperature drop and gusty winds.

Highs for Monday will come early in the day, with mid-upper 30s, and should end up in the 20s across the valley, and teens for the plateau by evening.

We will continue to see temperatures drop off into the teens by Tuesday morning, with wind chill values in the single-digits to below zero for most.

Highs remain in the 20s Tuesday afternoon, and we will fall back into the single-digits by Wednesday morning.

The good news is that we will see a warming trend late week into the weekend.
