NEWPORT (AP/WATE) - An inmate who walked away from a work detail in Haywood County, North Carolina has been captured in Cocke County.

Sheriff's Deputy Heidi Warren said Alan Scott Beck, 41, was found at a motel in Newport just before 8 p.m. Saturday.

He is in the Cocke County jail awaiting extradition to North Carolina. It was not clear if he has an attorney.

Beck had been taken to a Haywood County facility early Saturday and was reported missing several hours later.

Beck had been in custody since Jan. 13 on a charge of failing to pay about $1,200 in child support.
