WASHINGTON, D.C. (WATE) - While President Obama prepares for his State of the Union address on Tuesday night, 6 News traveled to the nation's capitol ahead of time to catch up with our local lawmakers.

Congressman Dr. Phil Roe represents the 1st Congressional District of Tennessee.

We asked Roe his thoughts about the speech, and the hopes that speech will encourage a more bipartisan approach to policy in Washington.

"I certainly hope so," Roe said. "You're beginning to see some bipartisanship here with the recent budget agreement that was just passed, and we're going to vote on the farm bill later this week."

Roe also offered his thoughts on what else may make it out of Congress and onto the President's desk in 2014.

"I think the only other big piece of legislation you're going to see, possibly, is some type of immigration bill. That may come up," Roe said.
