GATLINBURG (WATE) - A blanket of white covered the streets in Sevier County Tuesday afternoon, and the snow continued to fall. This kept the street department very busy as they were out salting about 100 miles of curvy roads.

"The crews have been out all day and are going to stay out all night if necessary," said Gatlinburg spokesperson Marci Claude.

She says about 250 tons of salt will be spread in Gatlinburg Tuesday.

"At about 9:00, 9:15 the snow really started coming and it hasn't quit since. So the roads have just been getting increasingly snow covered as the day has gone on," she said.

It's the same story in Pigeon Forge.

"It's still pretty slick and pretty dangerous," said street department supervisor Earl Ward.

He says it will take up to 50 tons of salt to cover nearly 100 miles of city streets.

"Most of its just icy. We're trying to get a good layer of salt down and letting it sit before we decide whether we're going to put another layer," he said.

While all this snow makes for bad driving conditions, some Gatlinburg tourists are loving it.

"I think it looks great out here right now. Especially if you're looking to come do any skiing or anything like that," said Tom West.

Officials say all of the crews in Sevier County have plenty of salt and they will continue to use it as needed.
