Note: Sen. Alexander's ex-aide apologized for child porn

WASHINGTON (AP) - A former aide to U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander who killed himself last week as he awaited trial on child pornography charges wrote in a letter that he "should have known better" than to view the images.

In a letter posted online, Ryan Loskarn apologized to friends, family and colleagues and said, "I've hurt every single human being I've ever known."

Loskarn says in the letter, which is described as his "last message," that he was himself abused as a child, something he calls his "deepest, darkest secret." He does not name the person who abused him.

Stuart Sears, a lawyer for Loskarn, said Tuesday that the letter had been verified as authentic by Loskarn's family. Sears also says Loskarn was a "very fine and decent young man."
