Meatball, the 36 pound cat, taken to special clinic

Posted: Updated:

After being shuffled from home to home, Meatball, a 36-pound cat, was recently brought to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control's East Valley Animal Care Center (MCACC) in Mesa, Arizona.

Despite his size, Meatball gets around fine but due to his size he was transferred Friday to Companion Pet Clinic in Gold Canyon.  They specialize in caring for pets with a risk for severe health issues.

In November, Companion Pet took in a 26-pound cat from MCACC and the pet has lost 7 pounds.

The largest cat on record weighed in at 46 pounds, according to Guinness World Records.

Once the staff feels Meatball has lost enough weight, he'll be up for adoption.
