KNOXVILLE (WATE) – From talking to people around town Friday, you would think it was only yesterday when Peyton Manning lived here.

People told 6 news his legacy goes strong because of all the things he still does for East Tennessee.

"Everyone knows who Peyton is," said Connor Rosenbaum, a UT student. "He's a legend around campus. I think all of Knoxville are Broncos fans because of Peyton Manning."

Another UT student, named Joe Daniels-Mulholland, echoed that sentiment. "I love Peyton Manning. I wasn't here when he played, but I watched him when he did and I just love his personality on and off the field."

"Peyton Manning is probably the best ambassador that East Tennessee has and probably will have for quite some time," said Rick Laney, who runs a Knoxville-based marketing firm. "It's been years since he played football here and he still represents the community. Obviously this community loves him. Peyton can do no wrong in the eyes of East Tennessee."

Manning's charity, the Peyback Foundation, helps at-risk children in Tennessee and other states. He comes back to Knoxville every year to give away two UT scholarships from his foundation.

"Peyton is a little different than a lot of folks," said Laney. "When you have a lot of money, it's easy to just write out a check and say here I'm doing something. Peyton decided that he was going to roll up his sleeve and be involved in the day-to-day activities and the actual administration of the Peyback administration."

Manning is also a spokesman for Tennova Health and plays in an East Tennessee charity golf tournament every year.

Manning will play his third Super Bowl on Sunday, his first with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos face the Seattle Seahawks at 6:30 p.m.

"I'm guessing that Knoxville has a huge number of Broncos fans, especially this weekend," said Laney.
