JELLICO (WATE) - A Campbell County teacher is charged with shooting her fiance to death in what authorities are calling an alcohol-fueled fight.

Campbell County deputies found the victim's body early Sunday morning at the couple's home in Elk Valley. Lisa Elliott, 47, is being charged with shooting her fiance, 53-year-old Larry Champlin, to death.

Elliott is a special education teacher at Jellico High School.

Authorities say Champlin was shot once in his upper body. Elliott's daughter, Diana Elliott, was at the home during the shooting. She says everything was fine just hours before Larry Champlin was shot and killed.

"Before I went to bed, we had just got done eating pizza. They said they were going to go in there and have some alone time, watch movies. Me and my little girl we laid down about 1:30, 2 o'clock and I heard them in there laughing. The next thing I know my mom was coming in there waking me up saying she needed my help because she shot David, and 911 was on the phone and the law was on their way," Diana said.

Diana said Champlin was laying next to his bed, still alive.

"He started vomiting, so I rolled him up on his side because I didn't want him to choke on his vomit. He quit breathing. My mom tried to give him mouth to mouth and tried to get him breathing again, well he started breathing again, then he vomited again," Diana Elliot said.

Champlin died shortly after that. Diana says the couple had been drinking that night, and that her mom acted in self defense.

"I think the argument might have started because she said that she took the liquor away from him and went and poured it out and he was wanting the car keys and she wouldn't let him drink and drive. I think that's when he got the gun down," Diana said.

Sonya Chambers is a former student of Lisa's. Her grandfather owns the home where the shooting took place.

"I knew Lisa. She helped me a lot in high school. She was a really nice person, she just didn't take nothing off nobody," Chambers said.

Diana says the couple was planning to get married on May 17th.

"My mom is not going to make it through this. She thinks that she has no reason to live because she's killed her soul mate, that's what she said," Diana Elliott said.

Lisa Elliott is being held at the Campbell County jail and is scheduled to be in court Monday.
