FRANKLIN, Ky. - A wreck involving four semi-trucks shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 65 in Franklin, Kentucky for nearly five hours Monday morning.

The multi-vehicle crash was reported just before 5:45 a.m. near mile marker 6 in Simpson County.

The driver of a fifth tractor trailer also crashed as he tried to avoid the first collision.

Andre Ellis told News 2 he hit a patch of ice sending his rig down an embankment.

After his truck came to a stop, Ellis said he immediately jumped out and helped another driver who was pinned in his truck.

Authorities believe icy roads also contributed to the initial crash.

The interstate was closed until about 10 a.m. when both northbound lanes reopened.

No serious injuries were reported.
