ABINGDON, VA (WJHL) -

A Honaker, Va. man was arrested Saturday after he tackled and beat a woman to the point where she lost consciousness.

According to an Abingdon Police Department news release, officers were called to the 900 block of Hillman Highway on an assault call.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, Tina L. White, 41, who said she was walking from Hillman Highway when she heard a car pull up next to her and saw Jonathan O’Neil Hess, 24, 508 Rollercoaster Road, in the vehicle.

Hess asked White if he could talk to her, but White allegedly told him she didn’t have anything to say to him.

When White continued to walk away, Hess got out of the vehicle, tackled her, hit her face several times and then put his hands around her neck and threatened to kill her.

According to the release, White told police that she started to see spots and then blacked out. She said she remembered feeling a sharp pain in her ribs and realized, when she regained consciousness, that Hess had kicked her in the side.

Hess allegedly stomped on her right ankle and then stepped over her as he left the scene.

White was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries and was later released.

Hess was charged with attempted first degree murder. He was being held without bond in the Southwest Regional Jail in Abingdon.
