KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Local law enforcement and authorities from the Tennessee Department of Corrections conducted a massive round up of wanted criminals Thursday night.

The mission was called "Operation Rocky Top". There were more than 60 probation and parole violators that they were after.

A few agencies met for a group briefing prior to the sting. They created five teams with members from the US Marshal's Office, Tennessee Department of Corrections, and the Knoxville Police Department working together.

The goal was to catch the wanted criminals off guard, then make an arrest.

The criminals they were after were considered threats to public safety.

"These are drug offenders who have multiple, multiple, offenses and continue to be a problem for probation and parole. Also, these are people who are involved with assaults and that type of thing," explained Robert Reburn with the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

Citing the example of a shooting in Fort Sanders on Tuesday night, they say it's often these repeat offenders who're involved in cases like that one.

"That suspect was not a first time offender," explained KPD Officer Lee Shaw.

At some houses the teams struck out, only getting leads on where a wanted person could be.

But at one home in Fountain City for example, they got lucky, catching one man who wasn't expecting officers at his home.

"He admitted that he knew he was on the run," Officer Shaw said, following the arrest.

They were able to make nine arrests Thursday night, and say a bigger achievement was all the leads they were able to get on where these criminals might be.

Investigators will look closer at that information. Then they'll go out on another follow up sting.

The following individuals were arrested as part of the operation:

  • Kenneth Spencer - Violation of Probation
  • Eddie Martin - Violation of Probation and a Child Support Warrant
  • Shayla Trent - Four Child Support Warrants
  • Jerrod Roe -  Violation of Probation
  • Chadwick W. Carr - Violation of Probation
  • Joseph Huckleby - Violation of Probation, Failure to obey court order, Theft and two (2) Juvenile Petitions
  • Anna Brymer - Violation of Probation
  • Timothy Weaver - Violation of Probation
  • Joseph Conwell - Violation of Probation
