MORRISTOWN (WATE) - A longtime radio personality in Morristown has died. Ed Dodson worked at WCRK since 1958.

He was 82 when he passed away at his home Friday afternoon, after complications from surgery.

Dodson was the morning show host at WCRK. Listeners say his unique voice, and personality to match, kept them entertained for more than half a century.

Dodson stayed on air until about a week ago, says his coworker Tim Crews.

"It was just a pretty much routine day. He signed off and he always just basically thanked the Lord for another day," Crews said.

Crews worked with him for nearly 20 years.

"Ed was the type of person that everyone loved. He was just a great, great soul. This community is going to miss him," Crews said.

WCRK stopped its regular programing for a while this morning to pay tribute to Dodson.

"We just literally took all the music out and just started taking phone calls and let the community reminisce," Crews said.

Edwin Goan recalls listening to Dodson for more than three decades.

"I listened to the Jeep and Ed show every morning. He was the man that would always tell us if we were going to have school or not. He had a unique voice. He certainly had a radio voice," Goan said.

The man to turn to for morning updates- and a good birthday joke.

"He would say 'Edwin Goan is 95 today, older than dirt.' Just a great jokester and he's truly going to be missed. He was a radio legend in this community. He certainly made a difference," Goan said.

"You can't replace him. There's going to be such a void here," Crews said.

Dodson leaves behind one daughter. His receiving of friends will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Alpha Baptist Church in Morristown. The funeral service will follow, starting at 8 p.m.
