Police say scam callers seek bank information

Posted: Updated:

HARLAN, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky State Police say some people in Harlan County have received scam phone calls from people saying they are entitled to a government grant and asking for private financial information.

Police say the people calling say they are with the U.S. Government Grants Department and want the people receiving the call to send money to receive the grant. The callers also ask for checking account numbers and credit card information.

Police at the Harlan post say anyone who receives calls, mail or emails from people they don't know should ignore them.

Complaints about scammers can be reported to the post at (606) 573-3131.
