Sevier County substitute teacher accused of assaulting student

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - A substitute teacher is no longer working with the Sevier County School system after students reported that she assaulted a student Friday at Sevierville Middle School.

According to the incident report from police, students told another teacher that substitute Elizabeth Leiser grabbed a male student by the throat.

When the principal investigated, the alleged victim confirmed what the other students said, claiming Leiser put her hand on his throat and pushed him to the ground.

When questioned, Leiser denied the claims.

She was asked to leave for the day while the incident was investigated.

Officials say she was later removed from the list of substitutes for Sevier County Schools.

Charges are pending in this case.
