ROGERSVILLE (WATE) - A major crackdown on drugs was a big win for investigators in Hawkins County Tuesday. Deputies surprised suspected drug dealers at their home with warrants for their arrest, deeming this sweep "Operation Be Mine."

Narcotics officers have been working for about a year on this sweep, buying drugs undercover all while building this case.

Deputies were armed with warrants Tuesday, ready to fight the war on drugs in Hawkins County.

6 News went along with a team to a home near Helton Hollow Road. Deputies swarmed the home, listening closely in case the homeowner tried making a run for it.

"We had 15 in custody within the first hour," said Sheriff Ronnie Lawson.

The sheriff's office suspects they were all selling drugs in the county.

"Everything from methamphetamine, to prescription pills, to marijuana, just an assortment of drugs," added Sheriff Lawson.

Once they were in the cruiser, it was back to the sheriff's office for booking. A total of 36 people were wanted in "Operation Be Mine."

"They're ours. If they can't make bond they'll be here for Valentine's Day," said Sheriff Lawson.

Deputies visited homes across the county, even into neighboring counties like Sullivan and Hamblen to find everyone on their list.

One home off Highway 70 in Rogersville was empty, but deputies knew where the couple who lives there may be staying.

"We've kept some of these individuals under surveillance for the last three or four days so we would know approximately where they are. They move around quite a bit," added Sheriff Lawson.

Teams were looking for weapons, anything illegal, and checking everyone's identity. They found everything from firearms, to ammo and drugs.

People who live in Hawkins County say this sweep is added peace of mind.

"You never know what's cooking next door, up the street. You never know who is going to try and break-in and get some money for drugs," said Hawkins County resident David Smallwood.

The reason the Sheriff's Office chose Tuesday was because of the winter storm that is expected to hit in the coming days.

The Sheriff's Office told 6 News they arrested a total of 35 people late Tuesday afternoon, some individuals believed to be out of state:
