KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Two families escaped a duplex fire Tuesday afternoon in North Knoxville.

The fire was reported at 2806 Tecoma Drive around 5:00 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find fire coming from a window and a door on the left side of the building.

Everyone made it out safely.

Officials say a tenant tried to put out the fire in the kitchen area, evidenced by an empty fire extinguisher in the side yard.

No one was injured. Investigators are looking into the cause.

The American Red Cross is assisting both families.
