Local agencies change plans during winter weather


Many Knoxville-area agencies are operating on snow routes or advising on changes due to the weather. This list will be updated as information become available. 

Knoxville Area Transit:

KAT will be operating on Severe Conditions Snow Routes for Thursday. This means most routes will not be operating. Only routes on the main thoroughfares will run. These are:

Rt. 11 Kingston Pike

Rt. 12 Western Avenue

Rt. 20 Central

Rt. 22 Broadway

Rt. 31 Magnolia

Rt. 41 Chapman Highway

Knoxville Police Department: 

Weather Alert: Motorists should be advised that road conditions will continue to decline as the heavy snow moves into the area. Please use caution.

Mayor Rogero Tweets at 9:49pm: "The Knoxville Police Department went to its Severe Weather Plan at 9:30 p.m. Officers are transitioning into winter weather vehicles."

Be advised!!! Hwy 27 in bitter creek is shut down at this time!!!! We do not have an estimated time of it reopening!!!

If you do not have to be out please stay home, only travel if it is an emergency. If you must be out, please slow down and allow plenty of extra time!

Morristown Police Department:

The Morristown Police Department has activated their inclement weather plan.  Officers will respond to emergency calls for service and traffic crashes involving injury.  Motorists involved in crashes in which no one is injured are asked to exchange information at the scene and come to the police department after the weather clears for a police report.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Announces Delayed Opening for Visitor Centers and Park Headquarters

Officials at Great Smoky Mountains National Park announced that Sugarlands Visitor Center, Oconaluftee Visitor Center, and Park Headquarters will have a delayed opening tomorrow morning, February 13, due to inclement weather. Visitor centers and administrative offices will open at 12:00 p.m. If overnight weather conditions warrant delaying our opening further, an update will be provided tomorrow. 


Currently all roads are closed in the park except for the following:  Newfound Gap Road from Gatlinburg to Sugarlands Visitor Center, the Spur between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, and Newfound Gap Road from Cherokee to Smokemont Campground.

Parole Board Hearnings Canceled:

Extreme winter weather conditions in east Tennessee is forcing the Board of Parole to cancel hearings at multiple institutions on Thursday, February 13.

The facilities affected are:
Morgan County Correctional Center
Jefferson County Jail
Bledsoe County Jail

Hearings scheduled for these facilities on February 13 will be rescheduled to the earliest available date. If additional closings are warranted, the Board will update the information on its Facebook page:  https://www.facebook.com/#!/TNBoardofParole as the information becomes available.
