KNOXVILLE (WATE) - University of Tennessee police say eight people cited following Wednesday night's snowball fight in Neyland Stadium were not part of the initial fight, but were found in the stadium hours later.

Students told 6 News about 300 people took part in the snowball fight around 11 p.m. Wednesday night.

Word of the snowball fight spread on Twitter. Students say the fight started in Presidential Court outside the dorms on campus.

It only lasted about half an hour before UT police officers showed up and cleared everyone out.

Police say it appears the people who took part in the snowball fight scaled fences, crawled under fences, or found locations unintentionally left insecure.

Officers then ensured all stadium gates and doors were secured and continued to check the area throughout the night.

Around 3 a.m., officers found eight more people inside the stadium. After removing these persons, they were issued citations for trespassing. Two were also cited for underage drinking.
