LAFOLLETTE (WATE) - A battle has been brewing over money raised for young cancer victim Katelyn Norman to help her cross off her bucket list.

Last year, as Katelyn faced the end, family, friends and the community organized a special prom and brought the celebration to her hospital bed.

Katelyn died last March, but donations kept coming in.

This week, 6 News has received a number messages from people who heard that Y-12 Federal Credit Union won't release that money to her family.

The Katelyn Norman Foundation's website features a message saying money donated to "Katelyn Norman's Bucket List" account in 2013 will not be released to fund the foundation.

It had asked visitors to fill out a form to email the credit union, but the form has since been taken down.

A representative of the foundation was set to talk with 6 News Friday, but that was called off. The representative said Katelyn's mother was meeting with attorneys and the credit union had threatened a lawsuit.

Y-12 Credit Union issued a statement on the matter:

"Privacy laws prevent us from commenting on Katelyn's Bucket List account specifically.  However, Y-12 Federal Credit Union does support many charities and chose to participate in the Katelyn's Bucket List charity because we feel deeply for Katelyn and the suffering of her family and friends. Moreover, we are committed to supporting efforts to fund the Katelyn Norman Childhood Cancer Foundation pursuant to Tennessee law.

"Speaking to charitable accounts in general, it is important to note that we do not profit from these accounts. They are controlled by the trustees designated in the trust documents or pursuant to Tennessee law, whatever the case may be. "
