KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Knoxville Zoo kicked off its annual search for seasonal employees by hosting a job fair Saturday.

The Zoo is looking to fill about 150 part-time seasonal positions ahead of its busy Summer season.

Nearly 200 applicants turned out to Saturday's job fair, hoping to snag one of those spots. The Zoo encouraging everyone, ages 16 and up, to apply.

"We love to have Knoxville people come through. Those are the people who love their zoo," said Knoxville Zoo Guest Services Director Josh Hurley.

The positions include everything from retails sales and food service to ride operations and ticket sales.

"That's what we're looking for. People who just love to be around people and love the zoo and will help us tell our story," said Hurley.

The Zoo's busy season typically runs from about March until October.

Hurley says the Zoo would not be able to function and serve all the guests that come through during that time without the help of season employees. He says they are proud to offer so many jobs for East Tennesseans.

"Anything that we can do for the community that also helps us out so much is always a big positive," said Hurley.

Some of the job fair applicants have worked at the Zoo before, like Beth Delong of Knoxville.

"It was excellent! It was right up my alley. It was interactive. It was nice interacting with all the guests that come in, the children of course," said Delong.

She hopes this year, she'll get to work at the Zoo again.

"Get another position with the zoo because it's a wonderful place to work," said Delong.

Anyone interesting in applying can fill out an application on the Knoxville Zoo's website. They will continue taking applications for the next several months.
