Vehicle theft leads to drug arrest in Jefferson County

Posted: Updated:
JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL - Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a man after finding more than five pounds of marijuana inside a  home.

Deputies were called to the 1300 block of Devine Drive Saturday, February 15 to investigate a report of a vehicle stolen from a repossession agent.

The agent told authorities he loaded a truck on a lift and the suspect unloaded the truck and drove off.

When deputies arrived at the home, Marcus Lammar Ellington answered the door claimed the theft suspect was not there.

Ellington gave deputies permission to check the home. That’s when authorities discovered the marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs.  A shotgun, handgun and cash were also found.

Ellington, 39, was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

He is being held in the Jefferson County Jail on bonds totaling $116,000.

The other suspect was never found.
