GREENE COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -
The Greene County Clerk accused of abusing his position obtain sexual favors from employees may soon be competing against his wife for his job.    News Channel 11 has learned that Becky Thompson, wife of current Greene County Clerk David Thompson, has picked up a petition to run for the office.    The Greene County Election Commission says David Thompson has filed his petition to run for the position as well.   Becky Thompson still must file the petition by noon Thursday to run.
News Channel 11 has been following the developments out of Greene County for months.   Tuesday, an ouster suit was filed against Thompson.  David Thompson can't be fired because he is an elected official.  However, a judge can remove him from office if it is determined that misconduct has occurred.
Greene County has hired an attorney to investigate the case.   That attorney told commissioners that Thompson, in affidavits, has admitted   to relationships with employees in his office and admitted "the relationships and sexual acts have occurred in the office on taxpayer time, on numerous instances."
A total five people have filed to run for the county clerk position, and four more have been issued petitions for the job. Among those are two Greene County commissioners. Wade McAmis has issued a petition. He represents the 1st District in Greene County and will run as a Republican if he files by the deadline.  Jan Kiker, who represents the 7th District in Greene County filed a petition Tuesday afternoon to run for county clerk  Kiker originally filed a petition to run as a commissioner, but withdrew from that race. She was among the commissioners who voted Tuesday to hire an attorney to represent the commission in filing an ouster suit against David Thompson.  McAmis abstained from the vote to hire the attorney at Tuesday’s meeting.
