ALCOA (WATE) - A Kodak man faces child abuse charges after a babysitter discovered injuries to a 2-year-old child.

An arrest warrant alleges Jason Paul Willis, 25, knowingly caused injury to the child.

Alcoa Police say a woman called them on February 6 after taking the child she sometimes babysits to Blount Memorial Hospital.

She told officers when the boy's mother dropped him off earlier that day, she noticed several injuries on the boy's body.

The babysitter said the child had a black eye as well as bruises and bite marks. She said the child's mother had recently begun dating Willis.

Detective said Willis, who has a Kodak address, had been staying with the child and his mother in Alcoa and had sometimes looked after the child. During an investigation, police discovered Willis was allegedly responsible for the injuries.

He was arrested on February 12.

Willis is being held in the Blount County Detention Center on $50,000 bond. A court hearing is scheduled on February 24.

The mother has not been charged. The child is now in the custody of the Department of Children's Services.
