KNOXVILLE (WATE) - A plea is being sent for East Tennesseans to help families struggling to pay their utility bills after the recent cold weather.

Volunteer Ministry Center says even one high bill can mean tough choices for some families. Many of those families are now receiving their bills when temperatures were the coldest.

"It's overwhelming. It's so stressful you just want to scream and cry. It's hard to get help sometimes because you have to call so many people and so many other people are in the same spot I'm in," Brandes said.
