An elderly woman has died after being involved in a five-vehicle crash Friday morning in Madison.
The wreck happened around 8:45 a.m. on Gallatin Pike South at Old Hickory Boulevard, just east of Interstate 65.
Police said Mildred Haas was driving her 2002 Buick sedan eastbound on the roadway when she failed to slow down or brake at the intersection's red-light.
Haas struck a Mercedes in the rear. The impact caused the Mercedes to then collide with a 2005 Chrysler van.
Haas' Buick continued to cross through the intersection and sideswiped a Honda Civic before colliding with a Lincoln Navigator head-on.
She was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she later died. Three others were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Authorities believe a medical issue may have played a role in the deadly wreck.
