MARYVILLE (WATE) - The Blount County Sheriff's Office is asking citizens to be alert after a woman reported being pulled over by a man impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Sheriff James Berrong says a woman reported being pulled over around 7:40 a.m. on Old Niles Ferry Road near Old Clover Hill Road.

The woman said she saw an unmarked white vehicle with dark tinted windows following behind her.

She said the driver turned on a blue light on the dash of the vehicle, and the woman pulled over.

A man then approached the vehicle, asked her some questions, then went back to his car and drove off.

The woman said the man had a medium build, brown/gray hair, dark clothing and a gray coat. She said he never identified himself or displayed a badge.

Blount County dispatchers said there were no traffic stops in that area Tuesday morning.

If anyone encounters this person of has any doubt about the legitimacy of a traffic stop, please call 911 immediately. The sheriff's office says all of its deputies identify themselves when they make a traffic stop.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office also suggests that if you are in fear, drive to a safe location before pulling over.
