KNOXVILLE (WATE) - The Tennessee National Guard has released its findings about the hard landing of an OH58D helicopter in Knox County in December.

The helicopter made a hard landing on Yarnell Road on December 13. Two pilots assigned to the 230th Air Cavalry Squadron were able to walk out of the helicopter with no major injuries.

Spokesperson Randy Harris says an investigation determined the accident happened when the pilot, who was flying with an instructor pilot as co-pilot, inadvertently reduce the engine's RPM. The pilots were unable to correct.

Harris says it was a night mission with night vision goggles, and the pilot was training with increased tempo due to impending deployment and compressed training time.

No disciplinary action was recommended by investigators, but they did recommend additional training in aircraft operations and blind cockpit operations.
