Visit Knoxville to offer premium Boomsday tickets

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Visit Knoxville announced Thursday it is planning to sell premium viewing tickets for this year's Boomsday celebration.

The annual event, which previously had free admission to all, is touted as the largest Labor Day fireworks show in the nation.

Visit Knoxville says the premium tickets would cover sections G-10 to Calhoun's on Volunteer Landing and would be gated. Other sections would remain free.

The premium tickets would include additional event programming.

Visit Knoxville says in the past, Boomsday has brought in more than 300,000 people, and often most people come out for the fireworks event later in the night.

They say their goal is to offer more events throughout the day so that the flow of people becomes more steady, though they're not yet announcing the specifics on those new events.

Ticket prices aren't available yet, but officials say it would help cover the cost of the additional event programming.

Visit Knoxville says the premium tickets will help bring more steady flows and shifts of Boomsday visitors because of more daytime events.

Kids 12 and under will have free entry into the gated Boomsday area.
