ALCOA (WATE) - Three people are in custody after deputies find a hallucinogenic mushroom growing operation in the Springbrook community, near a child care facility and a park.

The Blount County Sheriff's Office says they executed search warrants at two residences on Friday, one on Burroughs Road and one on Maple Street.

During the search on Burroughs Road, investigators found multiple psilocybin (hallucinogenic) mushroom colonies containing mature mushrooms. They also found canning jars containing spores used in the manufacturing process. 

During the search on Maple Street, investigators found more canning jars with spores and plastic containers used for planting the mushrooms. 

Michael Spencer, 37, of Maple Street in Alcoa, was charged with manufacture of a Schedule I controlled substance in a drug-free zone.

Charity Powell, 38, and Walteena Selby, 59, both of Burroughs Road in Alcoa were both charged with maintaining a dwelling for the purposes of manufacture of a controlled substance as well as manufacture of a Schedule I controlled substance in a drug-free zone. 

The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending on other individuals.
