KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Police say a man was shot in Knoxville Tuesday night, but details on the suspect remain vague.

According to the Knoxville Police Department, officers were investigating reports of a shooting on Chestnut Street at Louise Avenue just before 11 p.m. when they found the victim, identified as Montezz Graves, 19.

Officials say he had been shot in the upper leg area. He was able to speak with officers, but gave little information.

The victim told police he was near his home and had just gotten into a car when the person driving the vehicle attempted to rob him at gunpoint.

The victim says he got out of the vehicle and ran away, but was shot while he was fleeing.

The victim told police he called 911 after the suspect drove away.

The suspect is described as a black male, about 23 years old with a bushy mustache or goatee.
