Charges pending against Oak Ridge student involved in disturbance

OAK RIDGE (WATE) - Charges are pending against a teenager after an incident at Oak Ridge High School on Monday.

Oak Ridge police say a 17-year-old student became involved in a disturbance with a staff member, after the staff member told a school resource officer that the teen had assaulted a female student.

Officials say the student refused to comply with the officer's commands to stop, and continued to create a scene by yelling, slamming doors, and knocking over a sign.

The officer says he continued to tell the student to stop, and that the student then assaulted him.

The officer was able to subdue him and take him into custody.

The student was taken to Methodist Medical Center. Assault and resisting arrest charges are pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
