Sevierville Police Department warns residents of utility scam

SEVIERVILLE (WATE) - The Sevierville Police Department is warning residents and businesses about a utility scam.

The Sevier County Electric System says several of its customers have received calls from someone claiming to represent the SCES.

The person allegedly told customers that their accounts were delinquent and their electric service would be disconnected unless they provided their credit card information.

The utility says they've received reports of a similar scam in the past, but that it was through email.

Anyone seeking additional information about the scams should call the SCES at 865-453-2887.
