Monroe County constable charged with selling prescription pills

MADISONVILLE (WATE) - A Monroe County constable was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegally selling prescription pain pills.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office narcotics agent received information in January that Tommy Joe Jones, Sr. was selling pills. The initial investigation by the narcotics agent and detectives confirmed information about the unlawful sales, which was then sent to the 10th Judicial District Attorney's office and the TBI.

Prosecutors then presented the information to the grand jury which returned eight counts of sale and delivery of schedule III narcotic, one count of official misconduct, one count of possession of a firearm during a dangerous felony, and one count of possession of a radio/intercepting police frequency during offenses.

Jones was located and arrested around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. He is being held in the Monroe County Jail on $25,000 bond.

This elected position of constable allowed Jones theauthority to carry a firearm and badge along with other law enforcement-related responsibilities.
