Athens man accused of suffocating aunt, turning gun on self

ATHENS (WATE) - A neighbor and friend says she's still trying to make sense of a murder-suicide in McMinn County.

Deputies say Kenneth Dickson suffocated his 85-year-old aunt, Helena Spect, in his Athens home and then shot himself.

Kenneth's wife, 67-year-old Cathy Dickson, told deputies she came home and took a shower.

When she got out, she thought her aunt was asleep and she went to look for her husband.

Cathy Dickson told deputies her husband and his aunt were not getting along.

When deputies searched the home, they found a note from Kenneth Dickson telling his wife of important paperwork she would need for finances.

Deputies say they're still working to gather more facts in this case.

Both bodies have been sent to UT Medical Center for autopsies.
