KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Star 102.1 kicked off its 13th Annual Radiothon for the East Tennessee Children's Hospital Thursday morning.

Star 102.1's Marc and Kim will be live from West Town Mall for the Radiothon.

The fundraiser runs from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

"We all know someone that's been treated at this hospital," said host Kim Hansard. "Whether it's our own child, my son had his tonsils out there, or a neighbor child or a niece or nephew and we're so fortunate to have this wonderful facility right here in our back yard."

"We've got silent auction items," added host Marc Anthony. "We've got food you can by and make donations with and come see us it keeps us pepped up for the entire 24 hours."

The money raised from the auctions and donations is used to purchase equipment for the hospital's home health care program.

"We do the most that we can do for a child in the hospital, but we know that they do better and they get well better when they're home in their own surroundings," said Children's Hospital Spokesperson, Erica Estep. "So whenever we can do that we want them to be able to go home."

Over the years the Radiothon has managed to raise 2 million dollars to help make that possible.

"We're very proud of that, but you have to remember all we do is ask," said Hansard. "It's the community that calls 656-KIDS, donates the money and keeps giving year after year to keep the hospital going."

Marc and Kim will also be joined throughout the 24 hours by those who have gone through Children's Hospital

"People who have had family members who have been treated there and we get some people who have lost family members that still love the hospital and all they did to help save their child," said Anthony. "Those are the heartbreaking stories."

In addition to going to West Town Mall, you can help out by calling (865) 656-KIDS or donate online.
