GATLINBURG (WATE) - Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies is celebrating the birth of a new baby penguin.

A male African Black-Footed penguin was born on Jan. 5 to first time penguin parents Nick and Doza. He weighs just under 5 pounds.

It's the second penguin of its kind born at the aquarium. African penguins are considered endangered, which means they're facing a high risk of extinction in the wild.

The little guy is now being watched around the clock.

He doesn't have a name just yet, but he's already on display at the aquarium.
