ROCKFORD (WATE) - Rockford Elementary School was briefly put on lockdown Thursday afternoon while the Blount County Sheriff's Office searched for a suspect.

Deputies say they pulled over a vehicle around 1:15 p.m. on Little River Road near the school.

The officer recognized the passenger, Matthew Ryan Sherwood, 25. At least six arrest warrants had been issued for Sherwood. Some were felony warrants for aggravated burglary.

Sherwood ran off, leading to a search.

Sherwood was captured at a home on Self Hollow Road around 2:45 p.m. and is now in the Blount County jail. The driver was released with no charges.

School was dismissed at the normal time. No children were ever in any danger.
