Former UT head coach Johnny Majors recovering from heart surgery

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Former University of Tennessee head football coach Johnny Majors is recovering at UT Medical Center after having heart surgery.

UT Medical Center spokesperson Jim Ragonese says Majors underwent a heart valve procedure Thursday.

Doctors say the procedure went well.

Majors released this statement Monday:

"Under the circumstances, I feel very good. Sincecoming in for my procedure, I've had confidence in the wonderful medical careand the decision making of my physicians. I've been extremely pleased with thecare and attention I've received from the personnel at UT Medical Center to aidme in my recovery period. I appreciate the support of friends and family andalso of supporters of mine from Tennessee and other parts of the country."

Majors, who played halfback at UT during his years as a player, led the Vols to three SEC championships during his tenure as head coach from 1977 to 1992.
