Arson dog from KFD in running for national award

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - An arson dog with the Knoxville Fire Department is in the running for a national award.

"Bailey" is a semi-finalist in the American Humane Association Hero Dog Awards.

It recognizes the significance of the bond between human and animal and celebrates the accomplishments of these working canines.

In 2010, Bailey was on the scene of a house fire when she sniffed out the remnants of two Molotov cocktails.

Shortly thereafter, she tugged on her leash and took off from her trainer. When the trainer located Bailey in a field of weeds, he noticed that she had sniffed out another Molotov cocktail that had not yet gone off.

Bailey then led the trainer across the street to a bar, where the arsonist still had the scent of accelerant on his clothes.
