MORRISTOWN (WATE) - The Hamblen County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Unit and Detective Division are rounding up suspects Monday as part of a year-long drug investigation.

Officers began knocking on doors and making arrests at 5 a.m. Monday. As of 3 p.m. Tuesday., 56 of 60 suspects had been arrested as part of "Operation Pills Kill II."

Nearly 60 people were arrested as part of the first "Operation Pills Kill" in December 2012.

Two of those arrested Monday, Michael Whitt Jr., 21, and Jarrett Walden, 27, face gun charges as well for having weapons in their possession at the time of their arrest, and crack cocaine charges on top of the drug indictments they were already being arrested for.

Ten have been arrested on federal drug charges so far:

  • Lawrence Wells, 42 of Morristown

Hamblen County Sheriff Esco Jarnagin says he hopes this sends a strong message to the community that doctor shopping and the sale of prescription medication will not be tolerated in Hamblen County.

Officials say this has been one of the most successful drug roundups in county history.
