KNOXVILLE (WATE) - How does a bowling alley in your basement sound? It's a possibility because UT's Down Under 12-lane bowling alley is up for sale to the winning bidder.

Officials say you can't buy separate pieces of this bowling alley. It's all or nothing. To give you some perspective, you could win 190 bowling balls, 481 bowling pins, and 280 pairs of bowling shoes.

Almost 60 years of strikes, spares, and gutter balls at Down Under.

"It's kind of like an old fashioned sport. You don't need all the computers and all that tech savvy stuff. It's just you, the ball, and the lanes," said UT Sophomore Demarcos Coleman.

Though times, they are changing.

"There's history here. There were lanes here in the original building when it opened in 1954," said University Center Director Jim Dittrich.

UT's bowling alley is on it's way out as the new University Center is under construction and plans don't include the lanes.

"Someone interested in buying it would have to buy all of the lanes, all of the balls, all of the pins, the lanes, the ball returns, the bowling machines," added Dittrich.

The price tag depends on popularity. Bidding starts at $100,000. Lanes will be open through the fall semester this year. Students say it's sad to see Down Under bowling become a thing of the past.

"I am excited about the new UC with newer and nicer things but I'm sad to see the lanes go away," added Coleman.

The Down Under bowling alley is up for auction in December. If you would like to learn more about bidding you can visit the auction website by clicking here.
