A Johnson City man was arrested Tuesday for theft following an investigation into an early morning shooting at a Johnson City apartment complex on Austin Springs Road.

According to a Johnson City Police Department news release, Matthew Norris, 19, 622 E. Maple St., was charged after being released from the Johnson City Medical Center, where he was reportedly being treated for a gunshot wound.

On March 4, JCPD officers responded to 293 S. Austin Springs Road in reference to a stolen vehicle.

When officers arrived, they made contact with a woman who said Norris took her car without permission in an attempt to leave the scene of an earlier shooting he was allegedly involved in.

According to the release, the woman said she stopped Norris after he hit another vehicle and convinced him to stay until police and medical personnel arrived.

He was taken to the hospital and was discharged Tuesday.

Norris was charged with theft of property over $10,000, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a revoked license.

He was taken to Washington County Detention Center where he was being held on $12,500 bond.

Norris was scheduled to appear in Sessions Court for his arraignment Wednesday at 9 a.m.
